EDNA, Texas — A mother in Edna, Texas, is in anguish after discovering her 16-year-old daughter dead in their apartment on Tuesday. Lizbeth Medina, a cheerleader at Edna High School, was looking forward to participating in a Christmas parade with her team the same day. The Edna Police Department has not yet disclosed the cause of her death.
Authorities responded to a call at the Cottonwood Apartments on Tuesday evening. Emergency Medical Services attempted to provide medical assistance but were unable to revive Lizbeth. Her mother, Jacqueline Medina, described her only child’s killing as a cold-blooded murder. The family had recently moved to Edna, making the loss even more devastating.
In an interview with local CBS affiliate KHOU, Jacqueline reflected on what could have been a joyous day. “It should have been a great day because she was involved in the Christmas parade. She was going to be with the cheer squad. Lizbeth was my world, my everything,” she said. Remorseful and desperate for answers, Jacqueline pleads for justice and wants to know who would harm her “amazing little girl” and why.
Having grown concerned about Lizbeth’s absence from the parade, her mother eventually discovered her lifeless body at home. The local authorities have requested assistance from the Texas Rangers to investigate the suspected capital murder. Capital murder charges in Texas are typically brought when a perpetrator intentionally commits a murder while engaging in another serious crime, such as kidnapping or robbery.
The police have not specified why they believe Lizbeth’s death constitutes a capital offense and are urging anyone with information to contact the Edna Police Department.
