Chester, Pennsylvania – Five people were shot and two were killed in a workplace shooting on Wednesday at Delaware County Linen, according to District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer. The incident occurred when a disgruntled former employee entered the linen shop and opened fire on coworkers. While two victims tragically lost their lives, three others were rushed to Crozer-Chester Medical Center in serious condition. The shooting took place both inside and outside of the store on West 4th Street.
The district attorney expressed his condolences during a press conference, calling the incident a tragedy that sadly reflects the all-too-frequent occurrence of such events across the United States. Mayor Stefan Roots mentioned in a separate press conference that one of the victims was the shooter’s supervisor.
After the shooting, the perpetrator attempted to flee but was apprehended by police in Trainer, Delaware County. Authorities recovered a semi-automatic 9mm handgun from the suspect’s vehicle.
The alleged shooter’s identity has not been released by investigators at this time. Distraught by the incident, officials from Chester canceled their scheduled council meeting to focus on providing support for those affected by the tragedy. It was also noted that the White House has reached out to the city.
