In a tragic turn of events, a 30-year-old man from Florida, who had previously survived a 244-day coma, was fatally struck by a pickup truck. Drew Kohn had been involved in a severe motorcycle accident in 2017, just days before his 23rd birthday, which resulted in a traumatic brain injury and a prolonged coma. Despite the odds, Kohn woke up after eight months, according to a report by WTLV-TV News.
Kohn’s mother, Yolanda Osborne-Kohn, revealed that doctors had considered harvesting her son’s organs during his coma. She stated, “They would have harvested his organs. It was because of my faith that gave me the boldness to speak up and push back and let them know, ‘You’re not getting a toenail or an eyelash.’” She maintained her faith and hope, even when her son was declared brain-dead.
Kohn was eventually discharged from the hospital, still in a coma, until one day he woke up and spoke to his mother. After years of intensive rehabilitation, Kohn began to walk again, earning him the title of a modern-day miracle.
However, this miracle was tragically cut short last Friday when Kohn was hit by a pickup truck while walking on Collins Road in Jacksonville around 5:30 a.m., as reported by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. The driver, who claimed not to have seen Kohn, immediately called 911, but it was too late. Kohn was pronounced dead at the scene.
Despite the devastating loss, Osborne-Kohn expressed gratitude for the additional seven years she had with her son. She stated, “God honored my request, and I’m not mad. I’m not angry. I’m at peace. I got seven years and like Hezekiah who turned his face to the wall, I remember sitting on Drew’s hospital bed and saying to myself, ‘Thy will be done.’” She believes her son is now in heaven, free from suffering.
