Man Arrested for Allegedly Stabbing Ex-Wife’s New Husband on Thanksgiving Day

A 72-year-old Florida man, Gregory Grant, was arrested on Thanksgiving Day after allegedly attempting to murder his ex-wife’s new husband. According to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a 911 call around 11:15 a.m. regarding a potential stabbing incident at a residence in Pensacola, approximately 200 miles west of Tallahassee.

Law enforcement’s initial investigation revealed that Grant had temporarily resided with his ex-wife and her new husband. A dispute between Grant and the new husband escalated into a physical altercation on Thursday morning, culminating in Grant allegedly stabbing the man in the upper abdomen.

Grant was apprehended and booked into the Escambia County Jail shortly after 1 p.m. The victim, identified as Alan Bingham by Pensacola ABC affiliate WEAR, was immediately rushed to a local hospital. His injuries, while serious, were not deemed life-threatening.

In an interview with WEAR, Bingham shared that he and his wife had offered Grant temporary shelter as he was homeless. Bingham recounted the incident, stating that he had asked Grant to leave his room, which led to an argument. Bingham said he was trying to help Grant when the attack occurred.

Bingham described the attack, saying, “He had a knife in his hand, which I didn’t see at the time. I felt it [stab me] in my side. Then he tried to stab me again, but he cut my thumb trying to defend myself. I had his arms … so I took my right foot and tripped him. And that’s how I got away and called 911. Then he locked himself in the room.”

Despite the violent incident, the sheriff’s office does not categorize it as domestic violence. As of Friday, Grant remains in custody without bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 20 at 8:30 a.m.
