Marietta, Georgia – A man was arrested last week after allegedly disguising himself as a delivery driver to lure his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend out of his apartment and fatally shooting him in a premeditated attack. Donovan Carter, 33, was apprehended following a multiagency manhunt and charged with murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

According to the Marietta Police Department, officers responded to reports of a shooting outside an apartment complex on Cobb Parkway South on Jan 3. When they arrived at the scene, they found Kenneth Cunningham, 40, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Sadly, Cunningham was pronounced dead at the scene. Following the shooting, authorities spoke to witnesses who saw a tall, slender male leaving the scene.

Investigators quickly determined that Cunningham lived in the apartment building and was targeted in the attack. It was discovered that Carter had meticulously planned the murder, even going to the extent of dressing up as a delivery driver in order to lure Cunningham out of his residence. Authorities revealed that Cunningham was actually expecting a package on that day, giving Carter the opportunity to confront him and carry out the brutal shooting.

Late on the night of the shooting, Carter was detained after his vehicle was pulled over, and he was subsequently booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.

The motive behind the attack has not been disclosed, but investigators confirmed that Carter’s ex-girlfriend is not suspected of involvement in the murder. Police are still actively pursuing tips and evidence related to the case.

The arrest of Carter serves as an example of effective collaboration among law enforcement agencies to bring justice to the victim and hold the perpetrator accountable. The swift apprehension of Carter was a result of the combined efforts of various agencies, including the Marietta Police Department, Cobb County Police Department, Smyrna Police Department, Cobb County Sheriff’s Office, and Gwinnett County Police Department.

The investigation into the murder of Kenneth Cunningham continues, as authorities work to gather more evidence and information. At this time, there are no indications that the public is at risk, and officials are confident that the shooting was not a random act of violence.
