FRANKLIN, Tenn. — A small plane crash in Tennessee on Wednesday resulted in the deaths of three individuals, according to law enforcement officials.
The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office reported that the crash occurred near the intersection of Bending Chestnut Road and Davis Hollow Road. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) identified the aircraft as a Beech V35 that broke up in-flight, scattering debris over a half-mile radius.
Chief Deputy Mark Elrod stated that first responders quickly determined the operation would be a search and recovery effort rather than a rescue mission.
Earlier in the day, a 911 caller reported an explosion and potential plane crash. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and multiple agencies, including the NTSB, responded to the scene. The NTSB is expected to conduct a thorough investigation in the coming days.
Authorities have confirmed that the plane departed from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and was heading towards Louisville, Kentucky. All three occupants on board have been pronounced dead, and their families have been notified.
The crash left a significant debris field along a half-mile stretch. Residents in the area are urged to contact the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office if they find debris on their property.
Road closures have been implemented in the vicinity, with access restricted to local residents only until late Thursday afternoon. The closed areas include Bending Chestnut at Natchez Trace, the 5900 block of Davis Hollow Road, and the 5800 block of Bending Chestnut Road.
The NTSB is seeking information from witnesses who may have observed the accident or have relevant surveillance footage. Reports can be submitted to witness@ntsb.gov.
This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers associated with aviation. The NTSB will continue its investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
