TAMARAC, Fla. — A 3-year-old girl was fatally shot at a Broward County hotel on Saturday morning, prompting a police investigation. The incident occurred at the Extended Stay America on West Commercial Boulevard in Tamarac. Two individuals connected to the shooting have been detained, but no arrests have been made.
Deputies and Tamarac Fire Rescue responded to a call about a shooting around 8:19 a.m. When they arrived, they found the child with a gunshot wound. The relationship between the woman and the child remains unknown. The child was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities established a perimeter and dispatched the Homicide Unit to gather more information. Family members remember the girl, named Deyonnie, as energetic and playful. She was about to turn four years old and had plans to visit Disney World.
Two individuals in a U-Haul pickup truck were initially detained in Lauderhill but were later released. Investigators are still working to determine the circumstances of the shooting. Residents at the hotel have raised concerns about criminal activity in the area.
