Prince George County, Maryland, police are searching for a suspect following a tragic shooting on the Fourth of July that claimed the life of a 6-year-old child. The police department has announced a reward of up to $25,000 for any information leading to the arrest of the perpetrator responsible for the gunfire that occurred during a neighborhood gathering in Temple Hills. The incident left little Ahsan Payton dead and two other individuals injured.
According to the authorities, the shooting took place on Akron Street at approximately 7:50 p.m. Payton was found suffering from a gunshot wound and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he received treatment. Sadly, despite medical efforts, he passed away on July 6th.
Two other adults in attendance at the gathering also sustained injuries. A man was reported to have non-life-threatening injuries, while a woman was treated on-site for a graze wound. As of July 8th, no arrests have been made in connection with the case. Local reports indicate that police officials are currently searching for two potential suspects.
Aisha Braveboy, the state attorney for Prince George’s County, has made it clear that once the suspects are identified, they will face the maximum charges and penalties. County Executive Angela Alsobrooks expressed her deep concern, stating that it is unacceptable for neighborhoods, celebrations, and homes to be threatened by firearms. The county remains committed to taking illegal guns off the streets and ensuring the safety and peace of its residents.
