Lawton, Oklahoma – An 8-year-old boy named Zachariah Bannister is in critical condition after a gunman opened fire on his family’s vehicle on Sunday. The incident occurred in Lawton, Oklahoma, as the family was driving and admiring Christmas lights. According to reports, the boy’s mother noticed a green laser and then shots were fired, with one hitting Zachariah in the head.

Zach’s grandmother, recounting the terrifying incident, said, “His eyes were closed. He was leaned over to the right side. I saw blood, and Zack’s brother said that Zack was bleeding and screamed, along with myself, ‘drive mom, drive.’” The family quickly rushed Zach to the hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.

To support Zach’s recovery, his mother has started a GoFundMe campaign, which has already raised almost $8,000. The community has come together to show their support, highlighting the importance of standing united in times of tragedy.

Law enforcement authorities have arrested Jullian Phillips in connection with the shooting. He has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, according to a spokesperson from the Lawton Police Department. It is unclear at this time whether Phillips has entered a plea or has retained an attorney.

As of Wednesday, Zach’s condition had stabilized, according to the police spokesperson. While the young boy fights for his recovery, the community remains hopeful for a positive outcome.
