Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday that Israel is expanding its air power and domestic arms production to preserve its ability to strike Iran if needed.
“Our pilots can reach any point in the skies of Iran, and they are prepared to do so if required,” Netanyahu said in a video statement.
The remarks came after Israel approved the purchase of two new fighter squadrons, including additional F-35 stealth jets and F-15IA air superiority fighter aircraft.
Defense officials said the decision was shaped by lessons from recent operations against Iran and is part of a broader decade-long military buildup.
Netanyahu said the new aircraft would reinforce Israel’s air superiority, which he said had been proven in Operation Rising Lion and Operation Roaring Lion.
“These aircraft bolster Israel’s overwhelming air superiority,” he said. “We have incredible aircraft and we have incredible pilots.”
The prime minister also said Israel is investing in domestic munitions production to reduce reliance on foreign suppliers, calling independence a central pillar of Israel’s defense policy.
“Over the coming decade, we will add NIS 350 billion to the defense budget to manufacture these munitions here in Israel, ensuring we are not dependent on foreign sources,” he said.
Netanyahu also pointed to the drone threat, saying he recently ordered the establishment of a special project to counter unmanned aircraft.
“As for the drones, a few weeks ago, I ordered the establishment of a special project to thwart the drone threat, and a progress report on the matter will be presented to me today,” Netanyahu said. “It will take time, but we are on it.”
“We will continue to ensure Israel’s superiority in all arenas,” Netanyahu added.
