Four Israeli soldiers were wounded, including one seriously, after an explosive device detonated during operations in southern Lebanon overnight, while Hezbollah later launched rockets, explosive drones, and mortar shells toward Israeli forces in the area, the IDF said Sunday.
An IDF soldier was seriously wounded, and an officer was moderately wounded after stepping on an explosive device in southern Lebanon. An additional officer and soldier were lightly wounded in the same incident.
All four soldiers were evacuated to a hospital for medical treatment, and their families were notified, the IDF Spokesperson said.
The military did not specify the exact location of the blast or identify the unit involved.
Separately, the IDF said a suspicious aerial target was identified and intercepted in the area where Israeli troops were operating in southern Lebanon.
The military said no warning sirens were activated “in accordance with policy.”
Later Sunday, Hezbollah fired several rockets, explosive drones and mortar shells toward Israeli forces operating in southern Lebanon, the military said.
Rockets and drones exploded near the forces, but the IDF said there were no casualties in those attacks.
The incidents came as Israeli forces continued operations in southern Lebanon amid ongoing cross-border hostilities.
The IDF’s Arabic-language spokesman also issued evacuation warnings to residents in several villages in southern Lebanon.
The military statement on the wounded soldiers described the explosion as resulting from troops stepping on an explosive device during overnight activity.
It wasn’t certain whether the device had been planted recently or whether additional explosives were discovered in the area.
