On July 1, a tragedy occurred in Isla Verde, Puerto Rico, when a Maryland teen was murdered on the beach near the Casa Cuba club. The teen and his family were on vacation when the senseless murder occurred.
The Puerto Rico Police Bureau reported that an altercation had broken out, resulting in the shooting death of the victim, Tommy Grays III. Carlos Aníbal Rosado Martínez, identified by police as a suspect, turned himself in Friday morning.
Grays was a rising junior at James Hubert Blake High School in Montgomery, Maryland, where he was described as “extremely loving, thoughtful, and funny” in a letter sent to students and staff.
His father, Tommy Grays, told NBC Washington that his son was being falsely portrayed as a villain in Puerto Rico. He said that the altercation involved another family member and that his son had stepped in to defuse the situation when Martínez allegedly retrieved a gun and began shooting.
