In Albuquerque, New Mexico, a man was taken into custody on Saturday after he confessed to a violent assault on his father, leading to the older man’s death. The Albuquerque Police Department (APD) has charged 29-year-old Clayton Garcia with an open count of murder and tampering with evidence.
The incident unfolded in the early hours of Saturday, September 23, when APD officers responded to a distress call reporting a man lying on the ground and another man shouting death threats. Upon arrival at the Madeira residence near Lomas and San Mateo, officers found Garcia in the driveway, washing his feet with a hose.
Garcia reportedly confessed to the officers that he had been involved in a violent altercation with his father, Jorge Garcia. He claimed that his father had threatened to kill him, prompting him to retaliate. Jorge was discovered partially under a vehicle and severely injured.
According to Garcia’s account to the detectives, the dispute began when he returned home from a party and was confronted by his father for being too loud. When he tried to leave in his father’s car, Jorge broke the car window and attempted to pull him out, leading to the violent confrontation. Garcia admitted to kicking his father repeatedly but could not recall the exact number of times.
Jorge was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday. Garcia’s claim that his father had been seeking a fight for years, hoping to die in battle and reach ‘Valhalla’, the Norse version of heaven, added a chilling dimension to the case.
The Albuquerque Police Department issued a press release on Monday, confirming that Garcia faces charges of open murder and tampering with evidence. His next court appearance is scheduled for September 28.
