Israel’s military says the soldiers were attacked by Hamas terrorists as they searched for the remains of missing Israelis.

An IDF soldier was killed and three more were wounded Sunday evening, during a pitched battle against Hamas terrorists inside the Gaza Strip.

An army spokesperson identified the slain soldier as 19-year-old Cpl. Tamir Barak, a resident of Nir Eliyahu who served in the IDF’s Combat Engineering Corps.

While the IDF has not yet launched its much-anticipated ground operation into the Gaza Strip, the army acknowledged that some units have already been conducting smaller incursions into the Hamas-ruled enclave.

The Israeli military said the IDF force was attacked Sunday while searching for the remains of missing Israelis on the Gaza side of the border, and conducting reconnaissance for the upcoming ground offensive.

Overnight, the Israel Air Force continued to strike terrorist positions in the Gaza Strip.

Health officials in the Strip claim that 4,651 people have been killed in the airstrikes thus far, not including the more than 1,000 terrorists killed in Israeli territory following the October 7th invasion.

More than 1,400 Israelis were killed during the invasion, with dozens more killed in subsequent rocket and missile attacks and combat with terrorists.

Over 7,400 rockets and missiles have been fired at Israel from the Gaza Strip since October 7th.
