Frequent travelers often employ various methods to differentiate their suitcases in order to avoid any mishaps with their luggage. However, according to a baggage handler at Dublin Airport, these personal identifiers could actually be causing delays at the baggage carousel.

To stand out from the crowd of similar-looking bags, travelers often attach colorful ribbons, luggage tags, or other accessories to their suitcases. But John, the baggage handler, explains that these attachments can interfere with the scanning process in the baggage hall, attracting unwanted attention from airport luggage scanners.

“Take old stickers off the bag, it can cause confusion with the scanning process,” John advised. He also warned against packing marzipan, as its density can trigger a bag search due to similarities with explosives. Removing these identifying markers and avoiding potentially suspicious items like marzipan can increase the chances of luggage arriving on time.

Placing suitcases with their wheels facing up before drop-off was another suggestion from John to prevent potential damage. Although airlines are responsible for repairing or reimbursing passengers for damaged baggage, the resolution process can cause delays and disrupt travel plans.

By following these preventive measures outlined by a baggage handler at Dublin Airport, travelers can reduce some of the common stresses associated with air travel.
