Pontianak, Indonesia – A tragic incident unfolded at a gym in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, where a 22-year-old fitness enthusiast lost her life after falling from a treadmill and through a third-story window. Disturbing footage captured the horrifying moment when the woman stumbled backward off the machine and plunged to her death.
The incident, which took place on Tuesday, was caught on a security camera within the gym. The video shows the woman working out at the end of a row of treadmills before stopping and allowing the treadmill belt to push her backward. As she steps off the machine, she inadvertently stumbles straight towards an open window behind her, desperately grasping onto the window frame before plummeting three stories to the ground below.
Immediately after the fall, the victim was rushed to the hospital with severe head injuries. Tragically, the doctors’ efforts to save her life were in vain. An autopsy report revealed extensive bruising and lacerations on her head.
The woman, whose identity remains undisclosed, went to the gym with her younger sibling and boyfriend. Contrary to their invitation to exercise together on the second floor, she chose to use the treadmill on the top level. According to local reports, she had only been working out for half an hour before the unfortunate accident occurred.
The Pontianak City Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit has initiated an investigation into the incident. Authorities have noted that the proximity of the treadmill to the open window, just two feet away, created a dangerous situation. The gym issued an apology to the woman’s family and closed its doors for three days following the tragic incident.
This heart-wrenching incident highlights the importance of maintaining safety measures within fitness facilities. Moving forward, stricter guidelines and precautions may need to be implemented to prevent similar accidents from occurring in the future.
