KOUKLIA, CYPRUS – A group of British vacationers fell ill with a severe stomach ailment after attending a family wedding at a luxury resort overseas. Approximately 24 individuals reported symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, and fever following their stay at the TUI Blue Sensatori Atlantica Aphrodite Hills Hotel in Kouklia, Cyprus.
Among the affected were Charlotte Warner, 29, and her partner Paul Richard, 40, who traveled to the resort on October 11 of the previous year for the wedding. Warner was in good health until the final day of her two-week stay when she suddenly fell ill with severe symptoms including vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, fever, and headaches. She collapsed at the airport and was later diagnosed with gastroenteritis by her doctor upon returning to the UK.
Warner recounted her ordeal, stating that she had never been so sick before. Despite her condition, she and her partner had to make it to the airport, especially with their young son to look after. She remained ill for several days after returning home, with her doctor advising her to stay hydrated. Warner also reported observing food being left uncovered at the buffet and the same dishes being served multiple times.
Warner, a resident of Brighton, East Sussex, also claimed that new food was added to old dishes at the buffet, and some items appeared visibly undercooked or moldy. She also noted the presence of flies and birds in the restaurant area and wild cats roaming on the tables.
Another couple, a 31-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man who wished to remain anonymous, also fell ill after attending the same wedding at the hotel. The woman was so sick that she missed her flight and was taken to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with bacterial gastroenteritis. She had to spend an additional two nights in another hotel before she was fit to fly back home to Bournemouth, Dorset.
Jatinder Paul, a specialist international serious injury lawyer at Irwin Mitchell, has called on anyone who was staying at the hotel at the same time to come forward. He emphasized that the impact of such illnesses should not be underestimated, as they can have serious long-term health implications. He added that his firm is currently investigating the cases to secure the answers their clients deserve.
