The campaign headquarters of Vice President Kamala Harris, located in Tempe, Arizona, was recently subjected to a shooting incident, as confirmed by local law enforcement. This event took place just over a week after a second assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. The Tempe Police Department has reported that the Democratic National Committee campaign office, situated near Southern Avenue and Priest Drive, was found with damage from multiple bullets.
The shooting took place after midnight on Monday, but fortunately, the office was unoccupied during the overnight hours. Sgt. Ryan Cook, the Public Information Officer, expressed his concern for the safety of the office staff and the people in the surrounding area.
Detectives are currently analyzing the evidence collected from the scene. To ensure the safety of the staff and others in the vicinity, the police have implemented additional security measures. The staff members who arrived at the office on Monday reported what appeared to be gunshots fired through the front windows.
This is the second time in two weeks that the office has reported criminal damage. On September 16, just after midnight, the front windows were shot with what police suspect to be a BB gun or pellet gun. No arrests have been made in either incident, and authorities are investigating all possible motives.
This shooting incident comes shortly after a second attempt on Trump’s life at his West Palm Beach golf course on September 15. The alleged attacker, 58-year-old Hawaii resident Ryan Routh, was discovered when a Secret Service agent noticed the muzzle of a semiautomatic rifle sticking out from the bushes near the sixth hole. The agent fired before Routh could shoot. Routh dropped his rifle and escaped in an SUV, but was caught 40 minutes later.
Vice President Harris is set to visit Arizona for a campaign event on Friday. This will be her second visit to the pivotal swing state since her nomination at the Democratic National Convention in August. The Harris campaign has not revealed which city she will be visiting. Current polls show Harris and Trump in a close race in Arizona with just six weeks until Election Day. Trump won Arizona in 2016, but President Biden turned the state blue in 2020, winning by less than 11,000 votes, the smallest margin of any state that year.
