A former professional football player is facing legal action from a woman in New York who claims he knowingly infected her with a sexually transmitted disease. The woman, who remains anonymous, alleges that Eric Moulds, a former wide receiver for the Buffalo Bills, initiated a sexual relationship with her despite being aware of his herpes diagnosis, an incurable disease. The lawsuit further claims that Moulds specifically targeted single mothers who were Buffalo Bills fans living in Western New York, and that he had done this to several other women as well.
The legal complaint, filed on December 10, indicates that Moulds first reached out to the woman via Instagram in 2018. By December 2023, their communication had evolved into text messages, eventually leading to a long-term romantic relationship. Moulds, who also worked as an athletic trainer, paid for the woman to travel from her home in upstate New York to his residence in Charlotte, North Carolina. However, instead of engaging in fitness training, the two developed a sexual relationship.
The woman made several more trips to North Carolina, all funded by Moulds. Their last documented sexual encounter occurred in November 2023, and was unprotected according to the lawsuit. The following month, the woman began experiencing symptoms and later tested positive for herpes simplex virus type 2, a treatable but incurable disease. As she had been exclusively involved with Moulds, she believes she contracted the disease from him. The lawsuit alleges that Moulds never disclosed his STD status to her.
The woman also discovered that Moulds had a pregnant fiancée, with whom he had been in a relationship for eight years. The fiancée advised the woman to get tested for sexually transmitted diseases, stating that she and other women Moulds had been involved with had contracted diseases from him. The lawsuit further alleges that Moulds had previously been sued by several women for knowingly spreading herpes and had paid them to remain silent, making them sign nondisclosure agreements.
The woman currently suing Moulds claims she was also offered money to drop her lawsuit and keep quiet. The lawsuit alleges that Moulds intentionally infected multiple women with herpes, based on the numerous previous lawsuits. Moulds is being sued for negligence, intentional causes of action, failure to disclose, and infliction of emotional distress.
Frank LoTempio III, Moulds’ attorney, stated that they are in the process of gathering information and responding to the complaint, and that they will vigorously defend against the allegations. He promised to provide more information and comments once the litigation process begins.
