Within hours of Mamdani’s victory in New York City mayoral election, two red swastikas found painted at the entrance to a Brooklyn yeshiva, with two other sites vandalized.

Antisemitic vandals targeted three separate Jewish sites in New York City overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday, following New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani.
State Senator Sam Sutton said Wednesday that a yeshiva, a Jewish cemetery, and a Jewish social services organization were all vandalized with swastikas.
“Why? Simply because they stand for Judaism,” Sutton said. “This is something completely unacceptable in our state.”
All three of the vandalized sites are located in Brooklyn, Sutton said.
The yeshiva targeted in the vandalism has been identified as Magen David Yeshiva on McDonald Avenue.
At approximately 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, two red swastikas were discovered at the yeshiva’s entrance and on a window.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul condemned the vandalism and vowed extra spending “to protect vulnerable communities.”
“The Magen David Yeshivah in Brooklyn was one of several Jewish sites defiled last night with spray-painted swastikas. I strongly condemn this hateful display of antisemitism.”
“The horrific acts of antisemitic violence in Brooklyn have no place in our state. I’m committing an additional $20 million in our next budget to protect vulnerable communities. To the students, families, and all Jewish New Yorkers: We stand with you. Hate has no home here.”
New York City Mayor Eric Adams blasted the vandalism, while blaming the normalization of “antisemitic rhetoric.”
“Antisemitism has no place in our schools, our government, or our city, but it’s sadly what happens when too many normalize antisemitic rhetoric.”
Mayor-elect Mamdani also decried the vandalism, calling it “disgusting,” while vowing to “root out the scourge of antisemitism out of our city.”
According to a report published by The New York Post, the vandal behind the swastikas spray painted at the yeshiva acted alone and fled on foot afterwards.
No arrests have yet been made in the case.
