Randy Madden, a former participant in the eighth season of the popular reality show “American Idol,” has been apprehended on charges of alleged sexual misconduct with a minor. Madden, 45, was indicted on Monday with six felony charges, including illegal sexual intercourse, oral copulation with a person under 18, and penetration by a foreign object. Additional charges against him include sending harmful material, enticing a minor, and attempting to dissuade a witness from reporting a crime.
The charges against Madden are reportedly linked to at least one sexual encounter that allegedly occurred between July and September, according to court documents. The exact age of the victim has not been disclosed. Madden has pleaded not guilty to all charges and was arrested with the assistance of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.
Following his arrest, Madden posted a $100,000 bond on Tuesday morning and was subsequently released from jail. Attempts to reach Madden and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department for comments have so far been unsuccessful.
Fans of “American Idol” may recall Madden from his memorable audition during the 2009 season of the singing competition. Madden auditioned in Phoenix, performing a rendition of Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ On a Prayer” before judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson, and Kara DioGuardi.
Despite his spirited performance, Madden’s journey on the show was short-lived. All four judges voted against his progression to the Hollywood round, ending his stint on the show. The eighth season of “American Idol” was eventually won by Kris Allen, who triumphed over fellow contestants Adam Lambert and Danny Gokey.
