At least five Israeli civilians were killed and three others were missing on Monday morning after a night of Iranian missile attacks, with impact sites reported throughout central Israel, northern Israel, and the southern port city of Eilat.
Three victims in their 70s were discovered in the Tel Aviv suburb of Petah Tikvah, where a ballistic missile directly struck an apartment building.
Notably, the victims were found in their bomb shelter, according to Magen David Adom first responders.
The majority of those killed so far in the Israel-Iran war had not been inside of a bomb shelter at the time of a missile strike.
In the Tel Aviv suburb of Bnei Brak, emergency teams discovered the body of a deceased man, believed to be in his 80s, in an apartment building that was hit by a missile.
Hebrew-language news reports indicated a fifth person had been killed in the barrages, but did not specify where their body had been located.
A missile strike in a residential neighborhood of Haifa left two people injured, while three others are reported to be missing.
Rescuers are searching the rubble for the missing people.
MDA Director General Eli Bin told Hebrew-language Channel 12 News that at least 95 Israelis wounded in the attacks had been transported to hospitals.
According to Bin, the majority of those injuries were minor, with a 30-year-old woman listed as being in critical condition, a 10-year-old boy in serious condition, and six others classified as moderately wounded.
Ynet reported that one missile impacted near an international embassy in the Tel Aviv area.
Another missile completely destroyed a synagogue in southern Israel’s Lakhish region.
Large fires sparked by the missile barrages were reported near the southern town of Kiryat Gat and the northern city of Haifa.
The overnight attacks came after an unusual afternoon missile barrage by Iran, which left no people wounded and caused no damage.
