Yair Netanyahu compared Israel to a “banana republic in South America in the 1960s.”

The son of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu slammed the Shin Bet intelligence agency and the IDF leadership in a social media post on Sunday evening, claiming that they were conspiring to undemocratically oust his father from power via a series of fabricated scandals.
The Shin Bet and the IDF’s top brass are carrying out a “blood libel” in order to “gaslight” and distract the public from the reality of “what actually happened” in the early hours of October 7th, when warnings about an impending terror attack were allegedly ignored, Yair Netanyahu wrote on his X account.
Netanyahu also referenced the large protests against the judicial reform, along with reservists refusing to report for duty, immediately preceding the massacres.
“We had a coup against the democratic choice of the people by the prosecutor’s office, the media and the courts,” Netanyahu continued, comparing Israel to a “banana republic in South America in the 1960s.”
The younger Netanyahu also questioned the Shin Bet’s priorities in focusing its attention on members of the IDF and Netanyahu’s advisors, rather than terrorists who pose a threat to national security.
“The same Shin Bet that is now arresting and torturing IDF officers for nonsense is the same Shin Bet that a few months ago released the Dr. Mengele of Gaza – the director of Shifa Hospital, along with dozens of other terrorists, under the pretense that there was no space in prison for them,” he added.
In recent days, there have been reports of investigations into associates of Netanyahu. An IDF officer and Netanyahu advisor was arrested by the Shin Bet for allegedly leaking classified military intelligence to foreign media, in what investigators claim was an attempt to influence opinion about the hostage negotiations.
Another Netanyahu associate is under investigation for allegedly blackmailing a senior IDF commander, in order to force that officer to change the transcripts of conversations held in the Prime Minister’s office in the early hours of the October 7th massacres.
Prime Minister Netanyahu has strenuously denied the allegations, calling them “an organized hunting expedition designed to harm the country’s leadership and weaken us in the midst of a war.”
