The cause of death for renowned Irish singer Sinead O’Connor has been disclosed on the anniversary of her untimely demise. O’Connor, who was 56, was discovered unresponsive in her southeast London apartment in July of the previous year. Her husband, John Reynolds, officially registered her death in Lambeth, London, on Wednesday.
According to her death certificate, O’Connor succumbed to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. The Irish Independent reported that the celebrated Irish musician was also battling a respiratory tract infection when she died. The certificate further detailed her cause of death as an “exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchial asthma together with a low-grade lower respiratory tract infection.”
In January, a representative from the Southwark Coroners Court in London confirmed the cause of O’Connor’s death. The spokesperson stated that O’Connor’s death was due to natural causes. Following the announcement of O’Connor’s death, the Metropolitan Police in London confirmed that her death was not being treated as suspicious.
According to a police statement, officers were summoned to a residential address in the SE24 area at 11:18hrs on Wednesday, 26 July, following reports of an unresponsive woman. Upon arrival, a 56-year-old woman was declared dead at the scene. The statement further confirmed that the next of kin had been notified and that a file was being prepared for the Coroner.
O’Connor’s final Twitter post included a heartfelt message and a photograph of her and Shane, whom she referred to as the love of her life and the lamp of her soul. She expressed her deep loss and grief, stating that she felt like an “undead night creature” since his departure.
O’Connor was also a mother to three other children, Jake, Roisin, and Yeshua. Following her death, Irish President Michael D. Higgins lauded O’Connor’s “extraordinarily beautiful, unique voice” and expressed his hope that her spirit would find the peace she had sought in various ways.
