A couple in Mississippi was found dead in their home in a suspected murder-suicide case, just days after Christmas. The deceased, identified as Jennifer Sheffield, 30, and Brandon Sheffield, 40, were discovered on the morning of December 28. The discovery was made during a welfare check initiated by Jennifer’s family members who, upon entering the residence, noticed signs of a crime and promptly contacted the local police.
The Brandon police department is currently treating the case as a murder-suicide. Brandon Police Chief Joseph French, in a discussion with local media, stated that officers arrived at the scene at 7:19 a.m. and found the bodies of the couple inside their home. Initial investigations suggest that Brandon Sheffield may have shot his wife before ending his own life.
Chief French provided additional information in a statement to a local CBS affiliate, WJTV. He confirmed that the investigation is still underway and that the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is assisting in the case. The Crime Scene Unit was also involved in processing the scene.
Faye Lott, a friend of Jennifer Sheffield, spoke to a local NBC affiliate, WLBT, about the couple’s recent separation and impending divorce. Lott did not disclose the reasons for their split but expressed shock at Brandon’s alleged actions. She described him as a non-violent person and praised his love for Jennifer.
Lott said, “He’s never been a violent person that I was ever aware of. I was with her when they met, and I’ve always loved him for how he loved her. So it’s definitely hard trying to understand something we will never be able to.” She further described him as an “amazing person.”
An obituary for Jennifer Sheffield mentioned that the couple had two children. However, details about the children’s whereabouts during the tragic incident have not been disclosed.
