Devoted Disney Fan Found Dead at Resort

A tragic incident unfolded at Walt Disney World when a devoted Disney enthusiast was found dead in an apparent suicide. The woman, identified as 31-year-old Summer Equitz, was discovered at the Contemporary Resort, one of the many hotels within the expansive Florida property. Equitz had reportedly disappeared from her home in Illinois just hours before her death.

A missing persons alert was posted on a Reddit thread dedicated to Disney fans, believed to be by a family member of Equitz. The post urged anyone who spotted Equitz at the resort to contact the police. Equitz, who had previously celebrated her honeymoon at the theme park and announced her pregnancy late last year, had left her home and flown to Orlando without informing anyone, according to the now-removed Reddit thread.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the death as an apparent suicide but did not initially identify Equitz. However, the local medical examiner’s office later confirmed her identity and stated that she died from multiple blunt impact injuries.

Equitz was an avid Disney fan, often sharing photos of herself at various Disney parks on social media. One of her posts even featured a picture of her meeting Disney’s CEO, Bob Iger, in April 2021. She captioned the photo, “My life has peaked.”

Initial social media reports suggested that a person had died after being hit by the resort’s monorail, which connects the Contemporary Resort to Disney World’s Magic Kingdom park and several other hotels. However, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office refuted these claims, stating that the guest was not struck by the monorail. Further details about the incident have not been released due to its classification as a suicide case.

The exact location where Equitz’s body was found remains unclear, and Disney has not responded to inquiries about the incident. This tragic event follows another recent death at a Disney property, where a woman in her 60s died after experiencing a possible heart attack while riding the Haunted Mansion attraction at Disneyland in California.

Theme park accidents are not uncommon. In September, a 32-year-old man died after riding the Stardust Racers roller coaster at the Universal Epic Universe theme park in Orlando. In August, a toddler was found on a monorail track nearly 100 feet above the ground at Hersheypark in Pennsylvania.

According to Jim Hill of the “Disney Dish” podcast, suicides at Disney World occur more frequently than one might expect. He explained that individuals battling severe depression often visit the park to create one last happy memory before tragically ending their lives.
