Brooklyn, New York – A shocking case of murder and dismemberment unfolded in a Brooklyn apartment, as prosecutors revealed the horrific details of a dispute that turned deadly. Nicholas McGee, 45, is accused of stabbing and hitting his drug dealer and sex offender roommate, Kawsheen Gelzer, 39, during an argument over drugs. Following the altercation, McGee allegedly dismembered Gelzer’s body and stored the remains in the refrigerator and freezer.
According to authorities, the gruesome crime took place in March 2022 at an apartment in Flatbush. McGee allegedly attacked Gelzer while he slept on the couch, stabbing him multiple times and striking him with a hammer during the ensuing struggle. Afterward, McGee reportedly removed drugs from Gelzer’s pocket and proceeded to dismember his body using a saw and hammer.
Prosecutors detailed how McGee then placed the majority of the remains in plastic bags and a suitcase, while storing Gelzer’s head and torso in the refrigerator, and his arms and legs in the freezer. The refrigerator was even taped in an attempt to contain the smell. The heinous act only came to light in January when an anonymous tip led police to the location, resulting in the arrest of McGee’s wife, Heather Stines, who was charged with hindering prosecution and tampering with physical evidence.
McGee was arrested in Chesapeake, Virginia, where he was already in custody for an unrelated identity fraud case. During interviews, he allegedly admitted to the killing. He has since been extradited to New York and is expected to appear in court on Monday.
The victim, Gelzer, was a registered sex offender, having been convicted of sexually abusing a 12-year-old boy in 2004. Court records also revealed that he was a known drug dealer who had been couch surfing at the apartment.
This gruesome and senseless crime has shocked the community and prompted outrage. Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez emphasized the importance of holding the defendant accountable for his actions. As the trial unfolds, investigators and prosecutors will continue to seek justice for Gelzer and his loved ones.
