New York City, NY – Two men were shot, one fatally, in a drug-related incident that took place in Tompkins Square Park on Friday morning. The victims, aged 74 and 44, were shot in the back at around 9:50 a.m. near East 7th Street and Avenue A, within the historic East Village Park.
According to law enforcement sources, the shooting is believed to be connected to drugs. The motives behind the incident are currently under investigation. The victims were initially transported to Bellevue Hospital, where they were listed in stable condition. However, the condition of the older victim worsened, and he tragically succumbed to his injuries. The younger victim’s condition also deteriorated, and he is now listed in critical condition.
Police have not confirmed if the shooter is still at large. Footage obtained by The Post captured the moment shots were fired, causing panic and scattering among park-goers. The video does not clearly identify the shooter.
Residents in the area reported hearing gunshots, mistaking them for fireworks. Emergency medical technicians were seen providing aid to one of the victims on the ground. The incident has left witnesses shocked and concerned about safety in the neighborhood.
