On Wednesday, May 3, 2023, a tragic shooting occurred at a Tesla charging station near Denver. At 9:40 a.m., a 33-year-old man was shot and killed at Edgewater Public Market near a popular Shake Shack restaurant.

Initial reports indicated that the shooting revolved around a dispute over a charging spot. However, after speaking with witnesses, police determined the altercation was between two car owners – one owning, one renting – and not about the station. It was revealed that the area was known for Tesla owners to gather.

A 38-year-old shooter was taken into custody by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. Two shots were fired, though only one struck the victim. It is still unclear if both parties fired shots or if only the shooter was a Tesla driver.

Police were also attempting to determine if any nearby Teslas had dashcam video of the incident. Numerous cars were taped off, and a red sweater belonging to the victim – as well as his handgun – had been found.

The motive of the shooting remains unsolved. The investigation continues, leaving family and friends of the victim anxiously awaiting justice.
