Dallas, Texas – Former Dallas Cowboys guard Tony Hutson, who played for the team in the late 1990s, has passed away at the age of 49, according to an online obituary. The cause of his death has not been disclosed.
Hutson’s football journey began at MacArthur High School in Texas, where he excelled as an offensive tackle. He further honed his skills at Kilgore College before transferring to Northeastern Oklahoma State University, where he earned NAIA All-American honors in 1994 and 1995.
In 1996, Hutson faced a significant setback when a benign tumor was found on his right lung during a physical examination by the Raiders. Despite this challenge, he remained optimistic and focused on life beyond football. After successful surgery to remove the tumor, he signed with the Cowboys as a free agent.
During his time with the Cowboys, Hutson displayed dedication and perseverance. Although he spent 1996 on the practice squad and missed most of the 1997 training camp due to wrist surgery, he made his debut later in the year. His first start was a memorable one, contributing to a thrilling 17-14 victory over Washington. Hutson described the experience as emotional, filled with nerves, responsibility, and, ultimately, triumph.
