Grandfather Killed in Thanksgiving Day Dispute Over Loud Music

A dispute over loud music on Thanksgiving Day led to the tragic death of a 72-year-old Florida man, Hureleyon McLean. The Broward County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the incident, with the identity of the alleged shooter yet to be disclosed.

The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. on Somerset Drive in Lauderdale Lakes, approximately 32 miles north of Miami. The Broward County Regional Communications received reports of gunfire in the area. According to first responder radio transmissions cited by The South Florida Sun Sentinel, McLean was shot in the head by the alleged shooter, who remained outside a room with the weapon still in his hand.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered McLean with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The alleged shooter was detained by deputies and cooperated with detectives, claiming self-defense. The Sheriff’s Office stated that the case will be presented to the Broward County State Attorney’s Office to determine if criminal charges will be filed.

Rose McLean, the victim’s wife, recounted the incident to various media outlets. She explained that her husband was playing music during their Thanksgiving Day celebration when the neighbor complained about the volume. Her husband went to speak with the neighbor, and shortly after, she heard a gunshot.

Rushing to the door, Rose found her husband lying face down in a pool of blood. She also saw the alleged shooter standing nearby, still holding his gun. She confronted him, asking why he shot her husband. The man allegedly threatened to shoot her as well if she didn’t remain quiet.

Rose McLean expressed doubts about the shooter’s claim of self-defense. She stated that her husband was unarmed at the time of the incident, not even carrying a knife.
