A high-profile Israeli singer sparked controversy over the weekend, over a series of social media posts castigating the Israeli government, accusing it of committing “crimes against humanity” and comparing it to the Hamas terror organization.
On Saturday, Achinoam Nini, known professionally as Noa, linked to comments by the Christian Arab-Israeli singer Mira Awad blasting the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip.
Awad lambasted Israel’s “messianic government” that has been “raining down hell on the Palestinians,” accusing the IDF of murdering Gaza civilians.
“I agree with every word my sister Mira Awad has written!!!” Nini wrote in response in an English post.
The 55-year-old singer, who divides her time between Israel and Italy, compared the Netanyahu government to the Hamas terror organization, accusing both of crimes against humanity.
“I too am DEVESTATED [sic] beyond words!!!! STOP THIS INSANITY!!!! NO justification, NO morality, NO excuses, STOP!!! NOT in my name, nor in the name of countless of my country women and men, I WILL NOT STAY SILENT!!!!!”
“Hamas and the Israeli Government, UNHINDERED BY THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY WHO IS COMPLACENT AND AS SUCH COMPLIANT AND OF SHARED GUILT (!!!!) ARE COMMITING CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY!!! FREE THE HOSTAGES, STOP THE CARNAGE!!!”
Days earlier, Nini, who represented Israel alongside Awad at the 2009 Eurovision song contest, wrote in a Hebrew-language post accusing Israel of murdering Gazan civilians.
“The pamper[ed], mentally ill financier of Hamas is still sitting on his throne, along with his drunken wife and licentious son,” Nini wrote of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“The hostages are rotting away, the Gazans are starving and being murdered, everything is burning.”
“The government of abandoners, criminals, traitors, destroyers, dodgers, thieves — go home!”
Nini’s comments quickly drew sharp responses from Israeli social media users, one of whom suggested the singer emigrate to Gaza.
“Achinoam Nini is an auto-antisemitic grifter,” one X user wrote. “Why does she live in a country she hates so much? Why doesn’t she and all of her friends in the leftist club pack up and move to Gaza as a sign of solidarity?”
