The dual-track approach of escalating threats alongside tentative diplomatic signals continued on Monday, as senior Iranian officials issued stark warnings to Washington even as Tehran pointed to possible negotiations.
Iran’s armed forces chief, Mohammad Bagheri, delivered a blunt message, warning that even a minor U.S. miscalculation would trigger a forceful response.
“Any small mistake will open our hands for action,” Bagheri said. “The world will see the other face of powerful Iran. Then no American will be safe, and the fire of the region will burn the United States and its partners.”
Bagheri said Iran has reassessed its military posture following the recent conflict, declaring a shift to an offensive doctrine.
“After the twelve-day war, Iran reviewed its defense doctrine and changed the approach of the armed forces to an offensive doctrine based on rapid, decisive, and sustained operations,” he said, adding that Iran is “fully prepared for confrontation” and ready to strike in retaliation.
At the same time, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman signaled a parallel diplomatic track, saying Tehran is examining several diplomatic processes and expects developments in the coming days.
The messaging followed remarks on Sunday by Iran’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, who warned that any U.S.-initiated conflict would escalate into a regional war. “If the Americans start a war, this time it will be a regional war,” Khamenei said, in comments also posted to his official Hebrew-language account on X.
Later Monday, Iran’s state-linked Tasnim News Agency reported that talks between Tehran and Washington could begin in the coming days, potentially involving Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff, with Turkey mentioned as a possible venue.
Israeli officials separately said Witkoff is expected to arrive in Israel shortly for consultations with senior leadership.
