Former “Today” show host, Kathie Lee Gifford, 70, is recovering from a fractured pelvis following a fall. The incident happened shortly after Gifford had hip replacement surgery. Her injuries were severe, including two fractures in her pelvis, necessitating a hospital stay of over a week.

In a recent conversation with People magazine, Gifford revealed that she had strained herself by single-handedly moving 300 books during a book signing event in Nashville. She believes this overexertion weakened her body, leading to her fall the next day. Gifford confessed that the accident was a result of her own actions.

The day after the book signing, Gifford tripped while answering her door. She explained that her body was already weakened from the previous day’s activities, and the fall resulted in her hospitalization with a fractured pelvis. The pain from the pelvic fractures, she said, was more intense than anything she experienced during her hip surgery.

Gifford, who also co-hosted “Live! with Regis and Kathie Lee,” described the experience as humbling. She chose to stay in the hospital for a week, citing a lack of trust in herself. She reflected on the changes that come with aging, acknowledging that despite not wanting to think about it, it’s a reality she must face.

Despite the pain and inconvenience, Gifford found a silver lining in her situation. She joked about missing out on the summer season due to her recovery but looked forward to spending time at her farm and enjoying her salt pool. She saw the incident as a divine sign to slow down and appreciate her accomplishments.

Gifford had recently undergone hip replacement surgery, which she described as one of the most painful experiences of her life. Her doctor attributed her health issues to her active lifestyle, which included climbing mountains, making movies, and performing on stage, often in high heels.

Despite her health challenges, Gifford expressed no regrets about her life choices. She believes she was fulfilling her divine purpose on earth. In addition to her recovery, Gifford is also celebrating the release of her new book, “Herod and Mary: The True Story of the Tyrant King and the Mother of the Risen Savior.” The historical nonfiction delves into the life of Herod, the corruption that threatened a nation, and the journey of a teenage Mary to bring Jesus into the world.

Gifford credits her son, Cody, for inspiring her to write the book. She hopes that her work will provide hope to readers. Despite the uncertainty of her time left on earth, Gifford expressed her desire to continue being useful, kind, and loving to people.
