Man Accused of Killing Son During Christmas Eve Domestic Dispute

A 30-year-old Maryland man, Mark Jones, is facing charges for the alleged murder of his four-year-old son, Jacobi Jones, on Christmas Eve. The incident reportedly occurred during a domestic dispute when the child requested his father to exit his mother’s bedroom. The mother, Promyss Marcelle, expressed her grief and pain over the loss of her son in a GoFundMe campaign.

According to Baltimore County Police Department officials, the tragic event took place in the family’s Rosedale home. Jones is accused of not only shooting his son but also Marcelle and their one-year-old daughter. Following the assault, Jones reportedly attempted suicide but survived.

Marcelle shared her harrowing experience on the GoFundMe page, stating that she and her daughter were fortunate to survive the attack. However, her son, who was also shot in the head, did not make it. Marcelle recalled her son’s excitement about opening his Christmas presents, a joy he was tragically denied.

Court documents reveal that Jones allegedly retrieved a handgun and opened fire on his family during an argument with Marcelle in her bedroom. The police were alerted to the incident around 6:35 a.m. and arrived at the scene to find Marcelle and her two children suffering from gunshot wounds. They were rushed to a local hospital, where Jacobi was pronounced dead.

Marcelle has since spoken out about the domestic violence she endured in her relationship with Jones. Court records show that Jones had a history of violence, having been charged with assault using a firearm in May 2023. He pleaded guilty to second-degree assault and was given probation. In January 2023, a temporary restraining order was issued against Jones for domestic violence, but the charge was later dismissed for undisclosed reasons.

Marcelle urged others in similar situations to learn from her tragic experience. She emphasized the importance of leaving abusive relationships, even if it’s difficult. Jones is currently facing charges of murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder, child abuse, and assault. He is being held without bond.
