On Father’s Day, a tragic incident occurred in Michigan when a 60-year-old man, David Lee Mabry, allegedly killed his 57-year-old stepmother, Mary Mabry. After the incident, David was arrested and charged with an open murder charge and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was unable to post his $1 million bond and died in his jail cell two days later.
The alleged murderer was said to have pulled out a handgun without provocation and shot his stepmother while she was sitting on her patio. His father was able to disarm him before he fled the scene. The incident happened at around 2:10 p.m. on Sunday and David was taken to the Berrien County Jail at 5:00 p.m. that same day.
According to court documents, David Mabry told police that he went to his father’s house to pick up some cats after having been told the cats were gone and the pen was destroyed. He became enraged when Mary denied responsibility for destroying their pen. He later said that when Mary attempted to grab the gun, it went off and shot her in the head.
The death of David Lee Mabry is now being investigated by the Michigan State Police.
