A tragic incident unfolded on Christmas Eve in Massapequa, Long Island, when a man allegedly stabbed his mother to death while she was preparing dinner, as per police reports. The suspect, 27-year-old Jeremy Ramirez, was arrested on Saturday in connection with the gruesome holiday crime.
The incident occurred when Ramirez and his mother were alone in their home. Detective Sgt. Stephen Fitzpatrick of the Nassau County Homicide Squad shared details of the crime during a press briefing on Saturday. He stated that Ramirez’s mother was in the process of preparing dinner when the attack took place.
According to Fitzpatrick, Ramirez stabbed his mother multiple times before discarding the knife outside their residence. The motive behind the attack remains unclear. However, Fitzpatrick suggested that Ramirez’s violent history could have played a role in the incident.
Ramirez had just returned from a local laundromat when he allegedly attacked his mother, 57-year-old Josefina Ramirez Montero, stabbing her repeatedly in the chest and abdomen. Nassau County police officers, responding to a call, found Montero unresponsive in the living room of their home on Old Sunrise Highway. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Ramirez has a criminal history dating back to 2018, which includes charges for assault and weapons possession. These charges were related to an incident where he reportedly assaulted a victim with a bat.
Most recently, Ramirez was released from jail in January after serving time for attempted murder, robbery, and gang assault. The details of these charges were not immediately available.
