Man Dismembers Victim, Caught Driving Body Parts in Work Vehicle

An Ohio man is facing charges of murder and assault after allegedly killing and dismembering another man, then driving around the city in the victim’s work vehicle. Martel Huggins, 33, was arrested and booked into the Lucas County Corrections Center on Tuesday, according to jail records.

The victim, 27-year-old Malicai Calder, was reported missing in Toledo over the weekend. The Toledo Police Department initiated a search for Calder, which led to a shocking discovery on Tuesday. Calder’s work vehicle was spotted being driven around the city.

Upon stopping the vehicle on Mulberry Drive, police officers found that the driver was not Calder, but Huggins. Local ABC affiliate WTVG reported that officers found evidence in the vehicle that implicated Huggins in Calder’s disappearance.

The evidence was gruesome: body parts belonging to Calder were found inside the vehicle. Calder had suffered stab and gunshot wounds to his head. The county coroner’s office declared his death a homicide and confirmed that his body had been dismembered.

Prior to the discovery, officers had visited Calder’s home, where they found a dog barking, the shower running, and the television on. Calder’s vehicle was also reported missing from the residence.

The nature of the relationship between Calder and Huggins, if any, remains unclear. Authorities have yet to reveal a possible motive for the crime. Huggins is currently being held in jail on a $1 million bond and is scheduled to appear in court next month.
