A horrifying event took place last Friday on a playground in San Diego when a man was fatally mauled by his own dogs. The three large dogs, identified as “XL bullies,” unexpectedly attacked their owner, leaving bystanders shocked and rushing to help.
The San Diego police received emergency calls around noon, alerting them to a dog attack at the Mesa Viking Neighborhood Park. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the three dogs relentlessly assaulting the man. The intensity of the attack was so severe that one witness initially thought the police were trying to capture a dangerous criminal.
Steve Marto, a local resident, recounted the chilling scene. He initially thought the police were trying to apprehend a person because they were discussing setting up a perimeter. Marto described the dogs as “big, like XL bullies, just massive muscle.”
As the dogs continued their attack, onlookers tried to intervene, using shovels and a golf club in a desperate attempt to ward off the animals. The police were eventually forced to use tasers on the dogs. Two of the dogs were successfully subdued and captured, but the third managed to escape into the nearby neighborhood.
The escape of the third dog led to a lockdown at the nearby Ericson Elementary School until the animal was found at its home and captured. “The officer was able to break up the dogs. They fled, and the injured male was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries,” police reported.
Unfortunately, the man later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. A child who was present at the playground during the attack was unharmed. The fate of the dogs remains uncertain.
Marto expressed his sympathy for the victim but also shared his concerns about the dangers of owning such large dogs. He questioned why someone would want to have three dogs of that size, suggesting that it was inviting trouble.
