Glendorado Township, Minnesota – A man is in custody after five law enforcement members were shot on Thursday morning in Glendorado Township. The incident occurred while the officers were executing a search warrant at a residence in Benton County. The injured individuals are all members of the Sherburne County Drug Task Force, with three from the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office, one from the Princeton Police Department, and one from the Elk River Police Department. Fortunately, all five officers are expected to survive their injuries.
The officers, whose names are being withheld due to their undercover work, were taken to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale and a St. Cloud hospital for treatment. Three of the officers were shot in their bulletproof vests and have already been released after receiving medical attention. The remaining two officers are still undergoing treatment.
The suspect, identified as 64-year-old Karl Thomas Holmberg, was apprehended around 10:47 a.m. It is unclear how Holmberg sustained his injuries, but he was taken to a hospital for treatment. A woman who was present at the residence during the incident was also taken to a hospital for evaluation and later released.
Benton County Sheriff Troy Heck expressed gratitude that no lives were lost and commended the bravery and professionalism of the law enforcement professionals involved. The task force had executed the warrant at a home on 190th Avenue Northeast near Glendorado Road when they came under fire. After returning fire, the officers retreated to safety.
Special Agent Michelle Frascone assured the community that they are working diligently to provide answers and are reviewing body-worn and squad cameras for potential evidence.
As the investigation continues, the law enforcement community has rallied together, with numerous agencies responding to the scene. Sheriff Heck requested that the public keep all the officers, their families, and the involved agencies in their thoughts and prayers.
The incident has left the community shaken, but authorities are determined to uncover the truth and ensure justice is served.
