On Saturday morning, tragedy struck the small town of Hampton, Georgia, when Andre Longmore allegedly shot and killed four people in the Dogwood Lakes subdivision.
The victims were identified as Scott Leavitt, 67; his wife, Shirley Leavitt, 66; Steve Blizzard, 65; and Ronald Jeffers, 66. In response, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office launched a manhunt across the Atlanta metro region, offering a $10,000 reward for any information leading to Longmore’s arrest.
On Sunday, Sheriff Reginald Scandrett announced that authorities had tracked down Longmore and confronted him. Longmore returned fire and ran away, leading to a second shootout with police.
Longmore was killed in the shootout, and two officers were injured, one of them severely. The motive for the shooting is still unclear, and police do not believe Longmore was related to any of the victims.
Scandrett told the community that they can now breathe a little easier knowing the suspect is no longer on the streets. Sheriff Scandrett praised the officers for their bravery and said it was an “absolute honor” to serve with them.
