McDonald's Customer Killed other Patron Over Filet-O-Fish

A Texas man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of a lawyer at a McDonald’s restaurant in southern Texas. The incident occurred when the victim attempted to mediate a dispute between the convicted man and the restaurant’s staff. Anthony Landry, 59, was handed the life sentence on Thursday for the killing of Jeffrey Limmer, 46, as reported by the Houston Chronicle. The jury took a mere 20 minutes to declare Landry guilty a day prior to the sentencing.

The incident unfolded around 6 p.m. on May 4, 2024, when Landry became disgruntled over an issue with his Filet-O-Fish sandwich order. Landry was dining at the McDonald’s located along the Katy Freeway in Houston, Texas, which was bustling with customers and staff. He began to voice his dissatisfaction loudly when he discovered his sandwich was missing a patty, demanding a refund of $1.41.

Limmer, who was present at the scene, intervened in the escalating situation. He reportedly instructed the irate customer to leave the premises and physically escorted him out, causing Landry to stumble and fall. Following this, Landry retrieved a firearm from his vehicle and reentered the restaurant, where he shot Limmer nine times.

Despite the best efforts of the restaurant’s patrons and staff to save Limmer, he was declared dead at the scene. The Houston Police Department subsequently issued a warrant for Landry’s arrest on murder charges. Landry turned himself in a week after the shooting.

At the time of his death, Limmer was employed as an associate at the Houston office of Lewis Brisbois. His sister, Jennifer Thomas, described him as a peacemaker who often sought to defuse tense situations. She shared with local ABC affiliate KTRK that her brother was a regular at the McDonald’s near his home, and was known for his love of family, friends, and life.

Court records from Harris County reveal that Landry was out on bond at the time of the incident, following his arrest in February for an alleged aggravated assault involving a family member.
