The outbreak has resulted in the hospitalization of 10 individuals and the unfortunate death of one person. The CDC’s preliminary findings indicate a common thread among the infected individuals: they had all dined at McDonald’s shortly before falling ill, with many having ordered the popular Quarter Pounder meal.
The focus of the investigation is on the potential contamination of fresh onions and beef patties, key ingredients in the Quarter Pounder. In a proactive response, McDonald’s has temporarily removed these items from their menu in certain locations as a precautionary measure. As a result, customers in some states may find Quarter Pounders temporarily unavailable.
Dr. Natalie Azar, a medical expert monitoring the situation, underscored the seriousness of the outbreak. She noted that any E. coli outbreak is alarming, especially when it involves a strain that can cause severe illness.
