BROOKLYN, NY — In a poignant Instagram post, Brooklyn mother Casey McIntyre, 38, announced her own death on Tuesday. McIntyre, who tragically lost her battle with ovarian cancer on Sunday, penned the emotional message to ensure her friends and family knew the depth of her love for them.
The heart-wrenching post included a series of photos showing McIntyre smiling alongside her loved ones, particularly her husband of eight years, Andrew Gregory, and their 18-month-old daughter, Grace. McIntyre expressed her profound love for each person in her life and acknowledged that she was aware of the immense love she received in return. She described the last five months she spent in home hospice care with her loved ones as “magical.”
Gregory, in a subsequent update to McIntyre’s Instagram page, revealed that she had intended to conclude her post with a list of things that brought her comfort and joy throughout her life. However, her declining health prevented her from doing so. Gregory shared his belief that McIntyre would have included their daughter Grace, whales, ice cream, her cherished friendships, being at the beach, her beloved parents and sister, reading, swimming, a perfect roast beef sandwich, and their enduring love.
The post quickly went viral, garnering thousands of likes and hundreds of touching comments. Gregory, devastated by McIntyre’s passing, expressed his uncertainty about how they would carry on without her but resolved to find a way.
Born on February 1, 1985, McIntyre grew up in Upper Manhattan and Tenafly, New Jersey. She attended Agnes Scott College in Georgia before marrying Gregory in 2015. In 2019, while undergoing in vitro fertilization treatment, she was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer. McIntyre underwent a major surgery in January 2020, during which doctors removed all cancerous tissue, marking a particularly frightful moment in her journey.
A memorial service to celebrate Casey McIntyre’s life is scheduled for December 2 at the Prospect Park Boathouse.
Mourners are invited to honor McIntyre’s memory by anonymously purchasing medical debt and then forgiving it through the charity RIP Medical Debt. As of Wednesday afternoon, over $44,000 has been raised.
