A woman is facing charges of attempted murder following an incident where she allegedly shot her 13-year-old daughter in the neck at their residence on Monday afternoon, as per reports from law enforcement authorities. Officers arrived at the scene shortly before 5 p.m., finding the teenager with a gunshot wound. The girl initially told the officers that she was shot shortly after she returned home from school.
However, upon further investigation at the hospital, the teenager revealed a different story. She stated that a heated argument with her mother, identified as 32-year-old Talecka Brown, had escalated into a physical fight. Following the altercation, as she was descending the stairs, she heard a gunshot and fell, becoming immobilized at the bottom of the staircase. She also mentioned that her mother had instructed her to tell authorities that an intruder had shot her.
Initially, Brown told the officers that a homeless person had shot her daughter and that she found her injured when she returned home from school. However, the officers noted the smell of a recently discharged firearm in the house and found inconsistencies in Brown’s account of the incident.
During a subsequent interview, Brown admitted to having a firearm in the house, which she kept in a safe. She confessed that the firearm was unregistered and not hers. After a series of conflicting statements, Brown finally admitted that she was the only one present in the house when the shooting took place. Consequently, she was arrested and charged with first-degree attempted murder, among other offenses.
The injured teenager is currently in a critical but stable condition at the hospital. Brown is in jail, awaiting a bond review hearing scheduled for Wednesday.
