A 44-year-old Memphis woman, Miriam Castillo, has been arrested and charged with felony aggravated child abuse and misdemeanor domestic assault, as per the court records of Shelby County, Tennessee. Witnesses reported seeing her son fleeing and shouting that his mother was trying to kill him on a Tuesday afternoon.

According to a witness statement given to the police, the boy was assaulted by his mother. The affidavit of complaint, reviewed by Law&Crime, revealed that the boy claimed his mother was driving recklessly after picking him up from school. The boy’s age was not disclosed in the document.

The boy further told the police that his mother tried to force him out of the moving vehicle while they were on their way to pick up his sister. He then called his father, who advised him to take Castillo’s keys once the vehicle was stopped.

However, when the boy attempted to do so, Castillo allegedly bit him on his right hand and left elbow. She then reportedly used a screwdriver to stab him in the left leg, breaking the skin. The boy managed to escape from the car and started running until a witness saw him and alerted the police.

The boy received treatment for minor injuries. When the police located Castillo, they noticed a strong smell of alcohol on her. She admitted to drinking but could not recall the quantity of alcohol consumed. The police were unable to obtain a statement from Castillo about the incident due to her intoxicated state.

Following the incident, the boy and his sister were placed in the custody of their father. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office reported that Castillo is currently in jail with a bond set at $40,000. She is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
