Miami Gardens, Florida – In a horrifying incident early Monday morning, a man was discovered severely injured with his hand severed by a machete. The suspect, identified as 54-year-old Tyrone Arthur Rhyant, was apprehended by police nearby, naked and lounging on a sofa. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but it has been revealed that Rhyant’s estranged wife, who has a restraining order against him, lives in the vicinity.
The victim was found around 4 a.m. following a 911 call, bleeding profusely from his head and with a severed hand. Witnesses reported seeing a naked man fleeing the scene, later identified as Rhyant. Police were able to locate him based on the victim’s description. Rhyant, a resident of Opa-locka, admitted to the police during his arrest that he had intended to kill the victim and asked if he was dead. The victim was taken to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital for treatment.
Rhyant is now facing charges of attempted murder causing injury and domestic violence/violation of injunction. He is currently being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
The availability and use of weapons in acts of violence is another aspect that needs to be addressed. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences that can result from easy access to weapons.
