Houston Rockets guard, Kevin Porter Jr., was taken into custody in New York City on Monday, following allegations of assaulting a woman, according to law enforcement officials. The 23-year-old NBA player is expected to face charges of assault and strangulation. While the police have not officially confirmed the identity of the alleged victim, multiple reports have indicated that she is Porter’s girlfriend, a former WNBA player named Kysre Gondrezick.
The incident reportedly took place at the Millennium Hilton New York One UN Plaza early Monday morning. Responding to a call, officers arrived at the scene to find a 26-year-old woman with a facial laceration. Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman had been struck multiple times and had been choked. The suspect was later identified as Bryan Kevin Porter Jr.
The woman was subsequently taken to a local hospital where she was reported to be in stable condition. She had sustained bruising and at least one broken bone, according to law enforcement sources. The incident reportedly escalated after Porter and his girlfriend returned to their hotel room following a night out, and Porter found himself locked out.
The Houston Rockets, Porter’s current team, have not yet commented on the incident. In October, Porter had signed a four-year contract extension with the Rockets, worth $82.5 million.
Porter, who averaged about 19 points, five rebounds, and nearly six assists per game last season for the Rockets, has had a history of outbursts. He was traded from Cleveland to Houston in January 2021 following a heated argument and food-throwing incident over a locker reassignment. The NBA is currently in contact with the Houston Rockets and is gathering more information regarding the recent incident.
