JOLIET, Ill. — A nursing home resident in Illinois has been arrested after allegedly beating his neighbor to death in a dispute over a washing machine. William Paschall, 71, is facing charges of first-degree murder and aggravated battery to a person 60 years of age or older, according to police.

On Friday evening, authorities received a call from Salem Village Nursing and Rehabilitation in Joliet, reporting a “battery” on the facility’s sixth floor. Responding officers discovered a 61-year-old man lying unresponsive in the laundry room.
