A shooting incident occurred near Tennessee State University (TSU) in Nashville on a recent Saturday evening, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries. The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) reported that the tragic event unfolded just before the start of a homecoming football game around 5:10 p.m., where TSU was set to play against Eastern Illinois University at Nissan Stadium.

The police department informed the public via a Facebook post at 6:30 p.m., stating that several victims had been injured in the shooting that took place at the intersection of Jefferson Street and 27th Avenue North. They assured the public that the scene had been secured and the victims were receiving treatment at local hospitals.

In a subsequent update, the police confirmed that a 24-year-old male had lost his life in the incident. They also reported that there were a total of 10 confirmed victims. MNPD Public Information Officer Brooke Reese provided this information during a press briefing.

Reese further explained that five of the victims were transported to local hospitals by the Nashville Fire Department, while the other five arrived at the hospitals in private vehicles. Among the injured, three were non-critical victims who were minors. They were taken to a nearby children’s hospital for treatment.

Reese also pointed out that at least one of the injured individuals was suspected to have participated in the shooting. The MNPD is yet to release additional details about the incident, as the investigation is ongoing.
